Having qualified as a vet from Edinburgh in 1996, I spent four and a half years in a mixed practice in Cumbria before starting the Leamington Spa practice in December 2000. I’m a Centre Veterinary Surgeon for the Guide Dogs’ National Breeding Centre and have a keen interest in cardio-respiratory conditions of dogs and cats. I’m also interested in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery and have gained the General Practitioners certificate in Endoscopy and Endosurgery. I recently earnt a further GP Certificate in Emergency Medicine and Surgery.

Following graduation from Cambridge University in 2009, I worked in mixed practice until 2013 when I joined the Leamington Spa team, having developed a bias towards small animal practice. My main interests include dentistry and diagnostic imaging; I recently developed my expertise in this area by gaining a GP certificate in Diagnostic Imaging.

I graduated in 2005 from the Royal Veterinary College and went straight into mixed practice where I remained for five years. I then spent seven years at a small animal charity where I developed an interest in surgery while undertaking an MSc in Applied Animal Behaviour. Since coming to Medivet in August 2017, I have continued developing my interests further and have enjoyed learning keyhole spays.

I graduated from the University of Bristol in 2018 with a special interest in emergency medicine. After working as a day vet in the West Midlands, I joined the night team at Leamington Spa in October to focus solely on emergency and critical care.

I became a vet in 2001 after qualifying from the Royal Veterinary College in London. I previously worked in small animal practice in Derby for two years and at Medivet Kenilworth since 2003, before moving to Leamington Spa permanently in 2019. My job is always interesting thanks to my varied caseload, both medical and surgical.

Louise Want

Nurse Manager

I’m proud to be Nurse Manager heading up our excellent nursing team. I qualified in 1982 in Dublin and have had a varied career, including as an RCVS examiner, lecturer and clinical coach. I’ve been awarded Veterinary Nurse of the Year twice and received a commendation from the British Veterinary Nursing Association for my achievements. Nowadays, my primary role as Nurse Manager takes up a large proportion of my time, although my real passion is the animals; you’ll always find me in the thick of things cuddling something. I still love my work even after all this time and I feel very lucky to have found such a rewarding career.

Head Veterinary Nurse

Sam O'Rourke

Head Veterinary Nurse

I qualified as a vet nurse in a mixed practice in 2005 and have been head vet nurse for the last eight years. I have a keen interest in medical nursing and emergency and critical care. I gained my Diploma in Advanced Veterinary nursing from Harper Adams University in 2018. My typical day consists of looking after the Leamington nursing team, student training and making sure the vets are supplied with nursing support and copious amounts of coffee and cake. At home I have a black labrador, a jack russell terrier and two horses.

I qualified in November 2018 and really enjoy working in a busy 24-hour hospital environment. The best part of my job is caring for our in-patients, which I find very rewarding. I also enjoy watching ultrasound scans, and in the future, my aim is to take a diagnostics course to expand my knowledge.

I qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in February 2016. I’m currently studying for a certificate in Emergency and Critical Care, and I’m also acting as a clinical coach for one of our student nurses. I particularly enjoy looking after our in-patients in the Leamington Spa branch. At home, I have a Jack Russell cross rescue dog called Lucky.

I qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2011 and then went on to complete my diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Small Animal) in 2014. Here I specialised in anaesthesia, surgical nursing and intensive care. I’m now very proud to be the Senior Surgical Nurse at our Leamington Spa hospital. When not at work, you can often find me out and about with my crazy spaniels: Fig (my rescue English Springer Spaniel) and Flur (my working Cocker Spaniel).

I qualified in 2009 and although my background is an agricultural one, I immensely enjoy working with family pets and companion animals. I have a keen interest in preventative healthcare and help champion the excellent dental service we provide. I consider myself very lucky to work with such professional, knowledgeable and compassionate colleagues and value my position within the team. When I’m not at work, I share my life with Hovis, the one-eyed Pug/Border Terrier cross, and Bertha, a Labrador Retriever

I studied Animal Care at Moreton Morrell College and Animal Behaviour and Welfare at Plymouth University. I’ve also volunteered at the National Marine Aquarium, working with turtles, sharks and a very friendly octopus, as well as an Australian wildlife sanctuary, raising and releasing a pair of joeys. I have a keen interest in small animals and find reptiles fascinating. I’m currently studying to be a vet nurse and love working in the hospital. I have two cats at home called Ralph and Rocky who are complete opposites but very special in their own way.

I originally joined the Kenilworth team as a Client Care Assistant in 2018, before transitioning to a Patient Care Assistant in December of the same year. I've now started training as a Student Veterinary Nurse at Leamington Spa. Although I don’t have any pets myself, I’ve been adopted by my next-door neighbour’s cat, Izzy.

I'm also an Advanced Veterinary Practitioner in Veterinary Dermatology and take referrals on some cases. At home, I have three children as well as two red fox labrador retrievers, Margot and Nancy, a miniature smooth-haired daschund called Olive and a horse called Lulu. In my spare time I love to walk my dogs, watch rugby, travel and help with the horse. I also sing with my daughter in a Gareth Malone choir at the Latitude Festival.

I joined the Leamington Spa team in November 2011 after a varied career working in television news and teaching English at universities in the UK, the Netherlands and Switzerland. I now head up the reception team here and can't really describe a typical day as there’s no such thing. When not at work, my time is taken up with my two dogs, Mishka and Freda. Freda's hobbies are eating tea towels, rugs, furniture and £20 notes.

I trained to be a veterinary nurse after leaving school, and since then have worked in this capacity for several different veterinary practices. I recently moved from Medivet Binley to come to Leamington as a Receptionist, as I felt it was time for me to hang up my nurse's hat and have a change. I have two daughters, a dog and two cats, and I enjoy walking, gardening, reading and pilates.

Very helpful and friendly. Explain all options well , never to busy to fit you in. Always helpful, friendly staff and my dog Athena loves to visit. It's 8 months on and been taken over by Medivet, I,me afraid I have to look at other vets as prices have gone through the roof. Very expensive!!

What fantastic professional caring staff at medivet. Thank you for the care and compassion you showed Poppy our Golden Retriever. A special thank you to Simon the vet who completed the emergency surgery during the early hours of the morning. Without your dedication and support I feel our beautiful girl would not be here today. All of the staff were warm and welcoming keeping us updated every step of the way. I would highly recommend this veterinary centre. Keep up the great work. Many thanks for the help we received. Best wishes Debbie and Neil Bates.

Thankyou so much to the lovely vet working today who saw me and my 2 naughty puppies who had eaten something they shouldn't have both are rescues with some issues and all staff treated them extremely well, cuddles and kisses all round. animal welfare was top of their priorities and both dogs were treated quickly, efficiently and kindly which was much appreciated. they are now home and apart from being a bit sleepy and feeling sorry for themselves they are both fine.

Friendly, helpful staff. They take great care of all my animals and always give plenty of time and attention when we are there. Inviting waiting room which includes a cat corner with extra cat blankets. Update - staff still wonderful and service is excellent. Highly recommended!

Such a friendly welcoming place to bring your pets for check ups. I have had two pets who unfortunately were put down and this place is so caring. The staff really love animals and care so much about the customers pets and them. I have had cards sent from staff there when my pets were put down. Such a lovely gesture. Not many vets would do that. Reccomend to all pet owners. ( P.S. my pets were put down due to an infection in the ear and the other was put down due to something poisonous he swolled. I do not blame the vets at all they were put down as there was nothing that could be done, no money in the world could help them. They staff were so caring. I was crying my eyes out and they are just so lovely. Thank you so much, I will always use you. )

For some crazy reason, my dog loves coming to your surgery. If I'm taking him for a walk in town and we're near your surgery, he tries to pull us both in there. I think he just loves the attention and fuss from the friendly staff. Probably the dog treats too! I remember fairly recently he came in for his examination and annual injections. When it was finished, I put his lead on him and brought him out to reception to settle the bill. I dropped his lead while I was getting out my purse and he ran off. Not to the front door as a lot of dogs would do when inside a vet's place, but back into the examining room much to the staff's amusement. Seems he didn't want to leave!
