I qualified from The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh in 2010 after receiving a BSc in Animal Sciences from Rutgers University in America in 2006. I joined the Thirsk team in 2013 and became a practice partner in August 2019. I am interested in consulting, preventative medicine, and the client and pet journey through the clinic in order to make it as stress free as possible. At home I have two young boys and three dogs, so whether at work or at home I am always busy.

I joined Skeldale in June 2020 while working towards my certificate in small animal surgery (PGCertSAS), which I achieved in 2021. I love surgery and managing complex surgical cases, but I am also passionate about cats so worked with the nursing team to achieve our Gold ISFM accreditation. After qualifying from the Royal Veterinary College in 2017, I spent time working in small animal practices in London and Devon, before settling in North Yorkshire. My main role at Skeldale is as the inpatient and hospital vet. I have undertaken a post graduate degree with the University of Liverpool in internal medicine modules to achieve an RCVS certificate in advanced veterinary practice (Cert AVP PGCertVPS), alongside a certificate in veterinary professional studies. Outside of work I spend most of my time in the dales with my little spaniel.

I was born in Switzerland, but grew up in South Africa where I also pursued her childhood dream of qualifying as a vet. After qualifying I spent time doing community work (which has a special place in my heart) in rural South Africa providing veterinary services and education to communities that had never had this before. After moving to the UK, I joined Skeldale in 2019 but took a short break to pursue my interests in emergency and critical care as well as internal medicine. I returned to Skeldale in August 2021 to became a branch partner with Sarah and Medivet, and I am continuing to pursue these interests and is currently completing her Masters in these fields and using her new found knowledge in all aspects of Skeldale life. I also oversee the Skeldale night team which allows us to provide 24-hour care to our clients and their beloved pets in our hospital accredited practice 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.

I joined Thirsk 24 in November 2021 as part of the dedicated night team. As well as a keen interest in emergency work and rabbits, I have a passion for integrated medicine especially in relation to chronic pain. I completed my certificate in Western Veterinary Acupuncture and Chronic Pain Management in 2014, a foundation course in Western Veterinary Herbal Medicine in January 2023 and I’m hoping to complete a certificate in Canine Rehabilitation this year. I offer Western Acupuncture including electro-acupuncture, basic Physiotherapy and Herbal Medicine and can discuss if other treatment modalities might be useful. In my spare time I enjoy walking with my two Lurchers, yoga and help to organise fundraising events.

Ever since starting vet school in Italy, I have always endeavoured to combine my two passions of veterinary anaesthesia/ECC and wildlife medicine/research. After working as apprentice anaesthetist in a referral hospital and emergency surgeon in an OOH clinic, I started working for Skeldale in October 2021 as an OOH veterinarian. I am currently completing my Certificate of Advanced Practitioner in Veterinary Anaesthesia with the University of Liverpool. Alongside my small animal veterinary career, I work as a wildlife veterinarian and researcher for Norwegian and Swedish universities, leading field immobilizations of large Scandinavian mammals and writing scientific articles on wildlife anaesthesia since 2016, being invited to present such topics at international conferences and courses. I am very fond of outdoor activities and travelling.

  • Your vet in Thirsk

Find exceptional routine and emergency veterinary care in North Yorkshire at Medivet 24 Hour Thirsk. Not only do we provide a full range of services and facilities, but we deliver with passion, kindness, and the utmost respect for you and your pet. We look forward to welcoming you to our community.

  • Senior Cat Clinics

We strongly believe that age is not a disease and that older pets just need a little bit more care and preventative medicine to stay fighting fit. Our Senior Cat Clinics are used to assess senior cats for the common diseases that we see in our Golden Oldies such as osteoarthritis, heart disease, dental disease, chronic kidney disease, diabetes, subclinical urinary tract infections, hyperthyroidism, and hypertension, among other conditions. By checking healthy elderly cats for common conditions that we see in our geriatric patients we hope to be able to improve their general health and welfare and prevent any unexpected visits.

  • Nurse Clinics

We offer a variety of nurse clinics including weight watchers, diabetic pet support, confidence classes, dental care, and puppy pre-school, among others. Veterinary nurses are professionals who have gained academic and practical qualifications and are registered and governed by the RCVS like vets.  Many of our veterinary nurses have additional qualifications, including certificates in feline nursing, emergency and critical care, and behaviour.

  • Acupuncture

We offer acupuncture in combination with conventional medicine as an effective treatment plan for many musculoskeletal and other painful conditions. This approach is extremely safe when practice correctly and is well accepted by the majority of animals.

  • Diagnostic Imaging

We have a variety of equipment on site in order to diagnosis your pet. This include digital xray which can be used to assess your pets bones and jones, dental xray to assess the health of your pet’s teeth under the surface, and ultrasound which we use to image your pets internal organs.  We also have flexible endoscopy that we can use to look inside an organ or body cavity and obtain tissue samples in a non invasive way. We currently have one vet completing a certificate in Diagnostic Imaging.

We offer Healthcare Plans

Our clients save an average of £225 every year with the Medivet Healthcare Plan.

Excellent service. I took my sick Chicken late on a Sunday evening. She could barely stand and I didn't think she would make it through the night. The Vet I seen was very knowledgeable about chickens, he explained the various diagnoses and she was given an injection and some fluids. To my amazement she was considerably better in the morning and appears to be making a good recovery. I really appreciate the care and do believe the gentleman save my pets life. I highly recommend this practice and am very grateful to all the nice staff.

Great for emergencies, but they massively overcharge and recommend unnecessary treatment for money. Wanted to put my dog under general anaesthetic just to look at his teeth (he’s old and only a chihuahua) another practice looked at his teeth for free. The vet and receptionist was rude when I asked if I could get him sedated said general anaesthetic was necessary. Yet another vet simply checked his mouth under no procedure.

My family and I are truly thankful for the care provided to our cat (Ginger). He went missing 2 weeks ago and we have been so upset not knowing what had happened to him. Thankfully Pet Log was up to date and he had a Microchip which enabled the staff at Medivet to contact me. I can't explain how we all felt when they informed us he was alive. Ginger was in a very poor state, I am just thankful to the Medivet team (also Jess and Community Works team for taking Ginger to the vet in the first place) as they were so attentive and caring for Gingers needs and he is now home safe and sound with us. I have to say we have been so impressed with the service, especially the great communication throughout his treatment. I would like to send a big thank you from my family & I (including Ginger) for everything they have done.

Couldn’t give higher praise. We take our two cats here, after moving them from another vet practice. The emergency care has been phenomenal and our cats don’t dislike the vets now! We have used the emergency care after our cat ate raisins on Boxing Day last year. It was prompt and caring service without horrific fees.

One of my dogs came down with an illness at 16:00 a clock on Christmas Eve, which had the potential to spoil the Christmas not just for me and my wife but the entire extended family who care for our dogs. We called the out of hours practice (Medivet - Skeldale) and had my dog seen by the excellent vet within the hour. The vet provided care and support required and now my pet is on the mend from an illness that looked terrible and could have been serious had it not been addressed immediately. All I can say is i'm thankful we have 24 hour support for our pets, provided by the Medivet group.
