Faygate Vet Steps in to Support Local School

Medivet 24 Hour Faygate came to the rescue of Charlwood Village Primary School recently when it stepped in to save popular class guinea pig Nibbles.

Having lost one of its three guinea pigs earlier in the year, the school were understandably concerned when a rapidly-growing lump appeared under Nibbles’ chin. Faygate’s Veterinary Surgeon, Gianluca Deli, quickly saw the pet and determined that surgery was required to remove an abscess at the root of the lower teeth. With the school unable to raise the funds for the surgery and care, the Medivet 24 Hour Faygate team and Regional Director Natalie Osher stepped in with a kind-hearted offer of charging just for the medication.

We are really pleased that Nibbles has made a full recovery. She was a wonderful patient throughout her treatment.

After an hour in surgery and excellent post-op care from Gianluca, Nibbles has now made a swift and complete recovery. Happily, the school’s guinea pig is now back with her sister Sparkles – with both being looked after by the reception class. Headteacher Vicky Lanham said: “Our school are incredibly grateful to the practice, but in particular to Gianluca Deli and Mandy Tyrrell for all their help and support”.

Following the treatment, Gianluca visited the school with Veterinary Nurse Emily Brown to meet all the pupils and explain what had happened. Practice Manager, Mandy Tyrell, said: “We are really pleased that Nibbles has made a full recovery. She was a wonderful patient throughout her treatment – and Emily and Gianluca had such a great time visiting the school.”
