Product Recall - Hill's Canned Dog Food

We wanted to share some new, important information from our partners Hills Pet Nutrition, whose products are available in our branches.  

In January Hills voluntarily recalled five canned dog food products due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin D. They have now expanded the product list following a detailed review of their dog food products and we believe a number of our clients bought some of those products from one of our branches. These clients are being contacted directly.

The additional products in the expanded voluntary recall of affected canned dog food products are listed below. Clients who purchased any of the products with the corresponding lot/date codes please discontinue feeding and return the product to the Medivet branch where it was purchased from for a full product refund.

While vitamin D is an essential nutrient for dogs, ingestion of elevated levels can lead to potential health issues depending on the level of vitamin D and the length of exposure. Dogs may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss. Vitamin D, when consumed at very high levels, can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction.  

Pet owners with dogs who have consumed any of the products listed and are exhibiting any of these signs should contact their veterinarian. In most cases, complete recovery is expected after discontinuation of feeding.

The affected canned dog foods were distributed globally through retail pet stores and veterinary clinics. No dry foods, cat foods, or treats are affected. The full list of affected products is available on the Hills website www.hillspet.co.uk/productlist.
