Six Figure Investment Provides Enhanced Service to Essex Pet Owners

Pet owners in South East Essex are to benefit from a £150,000 investment in a new, state of the art CT scanner at Medivet 24 Hour Southend.

Based on Eastwoodbury Lane, the Veterinary Hospital and general practice has just taken delivery of an advanced CT scanner. The new tech will enable the team to carry out scans on patients from the Southend area as well as surrounding practices.

Branch Partner and Veterinary Surgeon Kathryn Davies explains: “Our aim is to offer truly exceptional service and the whole team here are excited to be able to offer local patients this improved access to advanced imaging.”

Looking to the future a little, it can even be used to produce bespoke surgical implants with a 3D printer.

“As well as speeding up diagnosis, to help us intervene quicker, CT is particularly good for identifying issues in hard to access areas like the respiratory tract,” she said. “Once pinpointed, we can then go on to accurately target with our selection of endoscopes. In a similar vein, it can also be useful in diagnosing middle and inner ear disease, as well as spinal disc issues.”

“In terms of helping us with surgical planning, the CT allows us to quickly examine 3D images of tumours and bone fractures. Looking to the future a little, it can even be used to produce bespoke surgical implants with a 3D printer,” she added.
