Medivet Senior Partner and leader of Medivet Saving the Rhino, John Smithers, recently visited the headquarters of Wilderness Foundation Africa (WFA) in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Wilderness Foundation Africa is the charity through which Medivet's project funding is channeled. John visits WFA at least twice annually to receive updates and discuss the ongoing project.
After the meeting, John commented, "Its gratifying to see the excellent work Wilderness Foundation Africa is doing to help save the rhino from extinction, and how well critically-needed funds from donors such as Medivet are managed."
With John in the photo are (left to right): Angus Tanner, Senior Conservation Manager, John Smithers, Matthew Norval, Chief Operations Officer, Dr Will Fowlds, Medivet Project Co-ordinator and Christine Roets, Operations Manager. Not present in the photo (but who was present at the meeting), is Andrew Muir, Chief Executive Officer.
While out in South Africa, John assisted Will Fowlds in a number of rhino procedures, and he and Will were interviewed for an upcoming UK television programme.
John will share some of these experiences with us, soon, and he has some very exciting news he can't wait to tell us about once he has obtained the necessary security clearances from the authorities!
