Complimentary first puppy and kitten consultation

We want to help you get off to the right start with your new puppy or kitten and are pleased to offer a complimentary first health check to provide expert advice from the outset.

Introducing a new puppy or kitten into your family is an exciting time for everybody, especially in the current climate when more of the family may be home and looking to participate. As exciting as it is, you will no doubt have many questions about how you can get off to the right start, we are here to help.

The Consultation

Our experienced vet or registered veterinary nurse will carry out a full nose-to-tail examination to make sure your pet is in the best possible health. This will involve checking your pet’s:

The consultation will cover:

  • Temperature
  • Ears, eyes and nose
  • Mouth, gums and teeth
  • Jaw conformation
  • Skin
  • Lymph glands
  • Heart and lungs
  • Abdomen
  • Joints and muscles

During the consultation, we will be happy to offer you practical advice on a wide range of topics and answer any questions that you may have. This will include pet insurance, vaccinations (including the Medivet Healthcare Plan), socialisation, nutrition, flea and worming treatments and anything that will be involved in settling them in.

We will also weigh your pet – as this is important for us to advise you how much you should be feeding them.

Take a look at our Puppy and Kitten Guide for lots of really useful information.

Phone or Video Consultation

If we are unable to offer you an appointment due to Covid restrictions including local lockdowns, it doesn’t mean we can’t help. Our team will happily conduct a complimentary phone or video consultation with you.

This is a great way to talk to our team about your new pet and get some initial advice on settling them in. We can also advise on initial vaccinations as these will still need to happen.

The phone or video consultation is not designed to replace a thorough clinical examination of your pet, as this is essential for all new pets. In this scenario, we will carry out the nose-to-tail examination when we see your pet for their first vaccination.

The importance of puppy training even during Covid-19

Getting your puppy off to the right start is an important step in ensuring that they mature into an adult that is friendly, sociable and well-behaved.

During the Covid-19 outbreak, we realise that this isn’t as straightforward as it might normally be, but it does remain a key part of the early development of your new puppy. We are pleased to have partnered with a team of puppy trainer behaviourists who are able to offer training online, and from the comfort of your own home or garden.

Please note that in order to keep everybody safe, we are still offering contactless appointments only. Please read our latest social distancing guidelines here.
