Veterinary Surgeon

Hi, I'm Joe! I qualified from the University of Nottingham in 2020 and have worked at Medivet Chorley since October 2021. I have a passion for surgery, and can perform both advanced soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures. I am also doing a further qualification in small animal surgery. In my spare time I enjoy watching sports, going to the gym, and long walks with my Border Collie Storm.

After completing my post graduate degree in Veterinary Medicine from Kerala, India, I moved to U.K. and received my MRCVS in 2005. Since then I have been working as a small animal vet initially in Birmingham, then in the North West and finally settled in Medivet Chorley in 2018. I enjoy all aspects of small animal work with interest in both medicine and surgery equally. Outside of work, I enjoy fell walking, gardening, a bit of baking, watching movies and spending time with my family and friends . I grew up with lots of animals back home in India. Currently, I have some beautiful Koi carps in my garden pond, but over the years, I had two beloved cats; Kitkat and Caramel and some beautiful canaries and finches too. I believe in the strong bond between human and animal and by helping an animal, helping a human too.

Hi I’m Alison. I qualified as a vet from Glasgow University in 1991. I started in mixed practice at Hillcrest Chorley at the old Eaves Lane site! I then did a residency in feline medicine and a PhD in feline respiratory disease at Liverpool University before returning to general practice. I have spent most of my working life in veterinary practice in the North-West except for a couple of years in the pharmaceutical industry and a short period working in Australia. I returned to the Chorley practice in August 2023 where I work part-time. My particular areas of interest are internal medicine and feline shelter medicine. In my spare time I am a trustee and vet for Woodlands Animal Sanctuary, a charity in Holmeswood, Lancashire which focusses on cat rescue; I also enjoy gardening and spending time with my family and elderly Border Terrier!

Night Veterinary Surgeon

Hi, I'm Lucy and I'm one of the night vets at Chorley Medivet. I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2021 and have been working in small animal practice since. My favourite part of the job is seeing patients that I've cared for go home to their owners after being unwell. Outside of work I enjoy hiking with my 2 dogs and rock climbing.

My name is Jenny. I am one of the night vets here at Medivet Chorley. I have worked in small animal practice for almost 9 years now, and been in emergency and critical care for the last year. I have a particular interest in surgery and have a drive to deliver the best care we can to every patient. Outside of work you'll find me playing sport, usually football, and travelling, I love to explore new places.

I’m Danielle, I have worked at Medivet Chorley 24 Hour for 4 years now, first starting as a receptionist. After 2 years I was lucky enough to be given an opportunity to study Veterinary Nursing. I am nearly at the end of Student Nurse journey and I am just waiting to take my final exams! I have always had a love for animals and currently have Lexi, Springer Spaniel and Poppy, Shih Tzu. I worked as a Dog Groomer in a previous role and spent my spare time helping dogs in obedience training.

One of our very poorly pomeranian dogs was recently diagnosed with diabetes and ketoacidosis and had to spend 24 hours at Medivet in Chorley: Every member of the team were amazing and caring: We left Jax with them knowing that he would be treated humanely and with love: Lucy was the vet assigned to take care of Jax, her kindness and obvious dedication to looking after animals is top rate. From Sarah and me, thank you so much. Jax still has a way to go but, thanks to you lovely people, he stands a good chance of making it.

My cat, Patch suddenly stopped eating, this went on for 3 days so I made an appointment at my nearest Vets, he was given a full examination but nothing gave cause for concern so he was given an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory injection then I was told to bring him back in 4 days time. On the 2nd visit, again no cause for concern so he was given a bottle of antibiotics and a bottle of painkiller then again told to bring him back in 3 days time, after that if he was still not eating they were going to suggest X-Rays however for each of the previous 2 visits I was charged over £100 and getting X-Rays were going to cost an additional £400-£500 which I couldn't afford. I didn't have pet insurance as Patch had been my Mother's cat which I inherited when she passed away plus I was out of work due to ill health. I subsequently decided to get a 2nd opinion and rang a Medivet in Bamber Bridge who fitted him in on the same day, following his 2nd examination i was told Patch had a very large lump in his abdomen which he was 90-95% sure was a tumour on his Kidney. I was then given 2 options, either try anti inflammatory injections every 5 weeks or to make the awful decision to have him put to sleep. I asked his opinion on how long did Patch have left while on the injections and told probably months. I wanted to keep Patch as long as i could so I opted for him to have the injections. A few days later Patch was no better and he became had become very frail, on the Friday night after cuddling him I realised that his time was up and I would have to take him to have him put to sleep on the following Monday or Tuesday. On the Sunday morning i woke to find blood all over my bedroom floor which I discovered was Patch who had been vomiting blood. I panicked so rang the first Emergency Vet that came up on Google however they quoted me £550 for a consultation and possible euthanasia. I did not know what to do as I knew Patch's Vet was closed for the weekend but I couldn't afford to pay £550 with having no regular income. I then suddenly remembered there was a 24hr Emergency Vet in Chorley which was also run by Medivet so I rang them to enquire how much they would charge for a cat euthanasia, they quoted me £163 without cremation or Casket so i asked if they could fit him in anytime on the Sunday and told to bring him in an hours time. The receptionist at Hillcrest was so nice and full of empathy for me, she advised that it could be Patch's tumour that may have ruptured which had then caused the bleeding. On arrival at Hillcrest Animal Hospital the receptionist greeted me at the door and then I only had to wait about 5 mins before I was called in by the Vet, he then talked me through the procedure of euthanasia and asked me to sign a consent form to proceed. Patch was then taken away to have a catheter inserted, then returned to receive the injection, i kissed and stroked my beloved Patch who then passed peacefully with no pain. I wish to thank Hillcrest Animal Hospital, Chorley for all their help and especially to the very kind receptionist. I was quoted £163 for the service which is what I paid, this is what I expected to pay for a cat euthanasia but it was fantastic value considering it was a Sunday service. I opted to bring Patch home and bury him in his favourite spot at the bottom of my garden so i didn't need to pay any extra for a Cremation or Casket, these extras are what increase the cost. A week later I received a sympathy card from the staff at Hillcrest and Medivet which I thought was especially thoughtful and a nice personal touch. Thankyou so much for that, I was very touched by it. There are a few negative reviews for Hillcrest Animal Hospital which i cannot comment on however i found that they are an excellent run establishment, excellent receptionist who gives you the time of day on the phone and the prices are probably what you expect to pay. 100% recommended. Thankyou.

Feel incredibly let down by this vets that I have attended with my pets for years. We were given misleading information by the veterinary nurse and completely overcharged more than 3 times the amount we were originally quoted. After sending a formal complaint in writing as per their complaints policy I was sent a very patronising response and they took no resposibility. Will NOT be returning.

Called today for emergency advice about my cat. Lovely friendly staff on the phone who advised up front about the emergency consultation fee(as it's weekend). Told me to come straight down. Saw a lovely vet called Pablo who gave my boy a thorough examination and, after advice and meds, I was able to bring him home (not as serious as i feared). Faultless...and my cat went to him after he'd finished checking him over. Can't recommend enough for the care provided. Thank you.
