Medivet The Vets Southend 24 Hour Veterinary Hospital

We can transfer your pet to our very own 24-hour veterinary hospital in Southend, where our dedicated team will provide your companion with round-the-clock care in an emergency.

Here, we have access to state-of-the-art equipment which allows us to provide your pet with the highest standard of care. We also have 24-hour access to your pet’s clinical records – through our integrated system – so we can update you on your pet’s progress whenever you feel the need.

If we are closed and your pet requires emergency care, please call us as usual and our phone line will direct you accordingly.

I grew up on a farm in South Africa and after qualifying as a veterinary surgeon, I worked in a small animal practice in Johannesburg for a number of years. In 1998 my wife, Marisa, and I, as well as our two cats, Skat and Mata, moved to the UK.

Marisa and I worked in a small animal practice in Sussex and we joined Medivet in 2003. I became a branch partner in February 2004. We have two daughters: Ina and Retha.

I started working for Medivet in 2007 as a student nurse and qualified in 2011. I then became head nurse of the Danbury branch. I have a keen interest in emergency and critical care and am currently doing a nursing certificate in this.

I have two cats which I took on as strays from work and a horse called Freddy.

Regional Director and Senior Partner

I joined Medivet in 2003 and became a partner in the Southend practice soon afterwards. Since 2009, I have been a senior partner and have managed the Southend region.

I have slowly reduced my clinical work to concentrate on strategic clinical aspects for the group, as well as managerial duties, and I am enjoying all the challenges that this brings. I have a dog, a cat and a young child at home, and enjoy the outdoors, wildlife, off roading and martial arts in my spare time.

I qualified in 1998 from Cambridge University and worked in mixed practice in rural Nottinghamshire before moving to London and working in small animal practice. In 2009 I bought and ran a small animal clinic in Richmond, south west London. In the winter of 2012 I relocated to Iceland, and was lucky enough to work in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. I spent time working in small animal practice and also for the Government Veterinary Authority, before leaving the glaciers and Northern Lights and returning to the UK in late 2016. I settled back into UK life working at a 24 hour hospital in north west London, and joined Medivet as Regional Director for the Southend region this October.

I live in London, and as is often the case with London living, my apartment is too small for pets! I have an Icelandic horse back in Iceland who I visit whenever I can. I enjoy all that London has to offer outside of work, including live music. I renovated an old timber house whilst living in Iceland, and have been bitten by that bug so I am looking for my next project here in the UK.

I began working in veterinary practice in 1994, qualifying as a Veterinary Nurse in 1998.

I worked in clinical practice for 20 years, eventually becoming Head Nurse of a busy main centre of an 8 branch group. In 2014 it was time for a new challenge and I moved to the Medivet Group to become Area Manager of the Southend region. I have never looked back.

I enjoy the varied role and working with the amazing regional team. My job can be challenging but it is also very rewarding and I look forward to spending many years within Medivet family.

I am the proud owner of a dog called Charlie and a cat called Tatty.
