  • Dog Blood Donor Day

We are having a Blood Donor Day at the Flitwick practice on the 20th of October. The donor days are run by Medivet’s in-house blood donation service, VetBlood, a not-for-profit organisation which saves lives of seriously ill dogs by supplying blood products to veterinary practices throughout the country. Medivet practices in the VetBlood donor programme offer free medical checks (including a blood test), a donor certificate and silver collar tag, a £25 voucher to spend with Medivet plus a discount voucher for pet food as well as a dog toy and treats.

For anyone interested in learning more about their pet becoming a blood donor, visit our Vet Blood Supplies page or email our blood team.

I moved to the UK in 2016 from Madeira where I was born. I knew I wanted to be a vet and did my training in Portugal. After qualifying, I did a few months in a laboratory working in clinical pathology. I have a rescue cat called Sam that came into the practice as a stray. When I’m not busy looking after four-legged friends, I enjoy cooking, hiking and photography.

I’ve been working as a Veterinary Surgeon for 40 years and joined the Medivet team as part-time staff in the last year. I’ve worked with horses, farm animals and companion animals. At home, I have two horses, four dogs (two naughty terriers) and a cat. In my spare time, I enjoy climbing and sailing and I love getting to know all of our clients’ pets.

I began my veterinary career in 2015 and have been working for Medivet since August 2016. I’m due to qualify as a Veterinary Nurse in early 2020 which I’m so excited for. I have a particular interest in anesthesia and, once I qualify, I hope to further my knowledge with an additional certificate. I also hope to do some volunteering abroad with animal charities. I have a Labradoodle called Carrig (Irish for rock) who’s practically my shadow - we do everything together and most of my spare time is spent with him.

Head Veterinary Nurse

I qualified four years ago and I’ve worked in the veterinary field for eight years in total. I’m the Head Nurse and my role involves everything from admin to teaching, to caring for the animals. My interests include emergency and critical care. I’ve also completed an additional certificate in Feline Nursing. I have three dogs, Ajax the eldest, Bambi the middle child, and Lollipop the youngest, along with Rosie the horse. Outside of work, I enjoy drifting cars and horse riding.

I’m a qualified dog groomer and I worked in an animal rescue centre before joining the Medivet Training College to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse. I’m particularly interested in canine behaviour and wildlife. When I qualify, I’d like to do an extra course in Animal Behaviour and some voluntary work around the world. I have an 11-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Crumble who’s my best friend. Outside of work, I like to travel to different countries and go to music festivals.

Before working with Medivet, I completed a foundation degree in Animal Management at Shuttleworth College. After completing the course, I knew I wanted to work with animals in the veterinary field. My main interest is canine behaviour and I'd like to study this further after I qualify. In my free time, I enjoy socialising with friends and going to see live music.

I'm currently in my first year as a Student Veterinary Nurse and I've worked at Flitwick for two years. I graduated with an honours degree in Equine Science and Rehabilitation Therapies in 2016. Prior to that, I worked for a pharmaceutical and veterinary wholesaler where I realised I wanted to be hands-on with animals and pursue a career in veterinary nursing. I have two cats, Missy and Milo and an Appaloosa horse called Fly.

Patient Care Assistant

I've been with Medivet for one year as a Patient Care Assistant. I have a Level 3 BTEC in Animal Management from Shuttleworth College and have gained work experience at Woburn Safari Park and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. I enjoy spending time with my friends, and I like archery and travelling. I have a hamster called Oreo and had a diabetic dog called Bonnie who sadly passed away in January. I also used to have a horse called Ceph who was a cob cross draft.

Our vet nick is the best, he’s kind, he’s supportive and always does his best to fit us in. Thora is also amazing and so kind. The veterinary nurses are all so lovely and take time to listen to your concerns and understand that my dogs are so precious to me. I would never consider taking my dogs anywhere else

Myself and my family have been bringing our pets to this practice for many years. The vets are always wonderful and help relax my anxious dog, and the receptionists are so kind, caring and brilliant at all times. I'd never want to take my pets anywhere else.
