I joined the Medivet graduate scheme in 2021, and have worked at Islington Cross Street since then. I enjoy all parts of practice, but my main interest is internal medicine. I’m originally from Suffolk, and at home my family have a young cocker spaniel called Tilly, a more elderly cat called Tom, and a few chickens and ducks (Charlotte, Betty, Flo, Sydney and Adelaide).

Veterinary Surgeon

Hello, my name is Leo and I am originally from Edinburgh, Scotland. I studied Veterinary Medicine in the Wild West, (University of Glasgow) and graduated in June 2023. I have been with Medivet since October as part of their graduate programme and divide my time between the Islington Cross Street and Finsbury Park surgeries. I enjoy all aspects of general practice. However, my greatest privilege is caring for all the animals that come into the clinics and getting to know their personalities. Outside of work, I enjoy exploring the food scene of London, meeting up with friends, music and, of course, reminiscing about Glasgow.

Find another practice. Medivet became an industry and pets are not the core business anymore. The staff is very unfriendly.

Went for my second visit yesterday, puppy vaccinations. The girls were really excited to be back there and the whole process went painlessly, they didn't complain one bit.

Inflated prices Medivet in Cross street quoted over £1,500 for dental care for my dog. In view of this very high price, I contacted another vet and they charged me just over £500 for carrying out the same dental work. The £500 included medication and 3 additional visits to check on the outcome of the procedure. They have carried out a wonderful job. More recently, I contacted Medivet again (they are my local vet) and asked for a quote for squeezing my dog's anal gland - their quote was £330. When I enquired why the quote is so high, they said that they would perform the procedure under anaesthesia. Other vets quoted around £30. There is a risk involved with the use of anaesthesia and it is best to avoid it, if possible. According to other vets, there is no need for anaesthesia for a simple procedure such as squeezing a dog's anal gland. It appears that as far as Medivet is concerned, the main consideration is financial and not the welfare of the animal.

The cost of the treatment was quite eye-watering. For a cat dental descale the base price was £395 but with a single additional extraction it was an additional £200 - £600 in total. This is more than I would pay for human treatment. Its hardly surprising the CMA is investigating vet pricing and I fear the sector is in danger of killing the golden goose. This is sadly a reflection of PE sector consolidation and price gouging.

They're not very nice, called to register my cat and also ask about student work placement. Before I had a chance to even ask about my cat I got abruptly cut off with "I have never heard of what you're asking for". I tried to speak again, same thing. Just left it and will call a different vet.

This is my favourite practice. The receptionists are always lovely and trying to help, whilst David the vet is just the best and caring professional there is. I would not go anywhere else with my pet!
