Ian Ross

Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

Ian graduated from Cambridge in 2000, and initially worked in mixed practice before becoming a purely small animal vet. After spending time in India, he moved to the northwest in 2010, and became a Partner in Medivet Ramsbottom in 2017. He has two cats, four chickens, and two children (oh, and a wife - Kay). He has a Certificate in Advance Veterinary Practice (CertAVP), and although he enjoys all aspects of the Veterinary world, he prefers medicine. Outside of work, he is an avid Liverpool FC fan, and watches a lot of cricket (he also coaches a local junior team).

Kay Ross

Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

Kay qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2000 and spent 2 years in mixed practice in Preston doing calvings, lambings and all other cow and sheep related things before moving into small animal practice. She spent 5 years at the PDSA in Wolverhampton where she developed an interest in surgery (and saw a lot of Staffies) and has been in partnership at Medivet Ramsbottom since 2017. Kay and Ian have 2 children who are 12 and 10. The eldest plays loads of cricket and football and the youngest is a Lego fan. In her spare(!) time she plays softball cricket (in the spirit of it you can't beat 'em join 'em) and badminton and likes to catch up with her schoolfriends. Her least favourite thing is standing on Lego.

Carla graduated in 2019 from the University of las Palmas de Gran Canaria and has been working for Medivet since 2021. I always wanted to be a vet and working at our branch in Ramsbottom allows me to grow as a professional every day. My fields of interest are dermatology, internal medicine and feline medicine. I am currently training to become a certificate holder in Feline Practice so we can tailor our care even more. I am a proud cat mum myself, of a Ragdoll called Marcel and my aim as a vet is always to treat my own patients as I would like my own furry family member to be treated.

Head Veterinary Nurse

I’m Gemma, I’m lucky enough to be the head nurse at Ramsbottom. I’ve been working in the veterinary world for over 20 years and have been a qualified nurse since 2013. I have a soft spot for our elderly patients and am extremely passionate about providing great patient care. I think it is important that the clinic is right in the heart of our community and that we all play our part in helping that community thrive. In my spare time, I look after a community garden, and volunteer for a local pathway conservation group. I am a bat carer and I am a trustee for a Bolton based charity.

Hi I’m Sophie, I qualified as an RVN in 2022 and before that I was a PCA for about 10 years, becoming an RVN was my dream job and it took a lot of perseverance and hard work but I finally managed to get my qualifications! I love all aspects of my job but have a special interest in rabbits. I live with my fiancé, my daughter and our cheeky guinea pig Rocky. In my spare time I like baking and spending time with my friends and family.

My name is Carol and I have been a patient care assistant here for 21 years, dating back to the days of Mr Bonham. I have lived locally with my husband for 30 years plus and have 3 grown up children and now 4 grandchildren too! I have 2 cats, Cosmo the Maine coon and Luca the rescue cat, who was found abandoned here in Ramsbottom as a kitten, and soon became part of the family. After various part time jobs when the children were small, I decided on a career change and settled in here in 2002. I enjoy cinema, reading and foreign travel including recent trips to the Galapagos and walking the Inca trail.

I have been in the veterinary industry since 2020, although my love for animals most definitely predates that! I sadly don't have any animals of my own, but that just means all of my love and energy can go into yours. You'll likely find me cuddling the cats in the back, if not rolling around on the floor with the dogs.

My two dogs have been going to Medivet now since it moved from the other location, previously named Bonham Vets. Since it moved we thought it was good however, in recent visits it has been appalling. All in the space of two months. Starting with the first instance. My dog, Milo, has to have medication as he has a grade 4 heart murmur which I get from the vets. Travelling from Rochdale it is quite a drive however it is worth it to protect my family member. My mother got a text the day before collection telling her we can collect as it needs two days to be ordered. As I arrived at the vets, I got the prescription only to be told they owe us 26 more tablets. I thought this was an inconvenience as I have a very busy schedule and its time travelling using petrol. I let this slide. This was after the conversation I had with the rude receptionist. After ringing up a month later, I was told my dog couldn't have his tablets due to needing to be seen. These tablets are for his heart, it is a life or death situation. So we agree he would be seen so we made an appointment. My sister then takes my dog to his appointment to be seen by a local vet, not one that works there full time. We were told information we already know and his check up went well. I then ordered the tablets there and then and they were on order. I then went to pick up the tablets two days later and were refused due to the check up he had being with a local vet, apparently didn't count as he didn't work there. The first thing that went in my mind was 'Who the hell looked at my dog then?!' We had to then waste petrol AGAIN, for him to be checked over AGAIN, by a vet that worked there. Completely ridiculous. I am a 22 year old with three jobs having to work hard to afford medication for my dog, and everyday living, whom I would do anything for, so he can stay healthy. So I can't be wasting petrol money travelling to Ramsbottom from Rochdale, for wasted visits. Also wasting time I don't have. As a pet owner I would do anything for my dog but the lack of respect for the owners from this vets was disgusting. The last straw was when the vets needed to see Milo for his flea and worm tablets. We asked if we needed to bring our other dog Missy to which the reply was 'No.' As we took Milo we were told now we had to bring our other dog in for a check up. The communication was so poor we decided to move vets as the service was ridiculous. Now we have moved to a vets in Rochdale closer to us, we have had the best experience. However Milos initial consultation for his heart didn't go quite as planned as Ramsbottom Medivet told Rochdale he has a Grade 5 heart murmur rather than a Grade 4. Giving false information to other vet practices. This was a shock obviously and he was given a check over by our new vets who told us it was Grade 4. The thing that has made me so angry and which made me decide to write a review was the daylight robbery, Medivets is putting into practice. For one months tablets for my dog at Ramsbottom, I was paying £120 a month along with a £45 consultation charge. Which is a lot of money however I was willing to pay for my dog as he is my family member. Rochdale vets, which a different name, has given me two months worth of tablets, and the initial consultation charge for £165. I have paid over £800 for my dog at Ramsbottom vets, along with wasted petrol, over the past year which is disgusting when I could have paid £50 a box at this new vets. Along with being given false information and poor communication. Thankfully my dog is happy and healthy as he can be at this new vets he goes to. I will NOT be recommending this vets to anyone and I can't compliment my new vets enough.
