Tine Van Egdom

Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified in 2002 in South Africa and spent the next 15 years working with the country’s small and large animals. I then moved to the UK in 2015 and have worked at Medivet ever since, taking over the Portland clinic in 2018. I love sport and enjoy spending time as a busy wife and mum to three children. I have a German Shepherd called Zulka, a Border Terrier called Sam and two cats called Ruby and Jessie.

I joined the Portland practice five months ago as a Patient Care Assistant and I love to care for all animals. I previously studied Animal Care at Kingston Maurward College and worked with the RSPCA; I also work alongside my mum at her wildlife rescue centre. I have many animals at home, including a Labrador called Blossom, a Bulldog called Gilbert, a Border Terrier called Lily and two crossbreeds called Little and Stripes. I also have reptiles, poultry and small mammals.

I’ve been with Medivet since 2016 and I’m in my second year of studies to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse. I’ve studied diplomas in Animal Management and Dog Grooming and worked at kennels before transferring my skills to veterinary care. I also travelled to South Africa for a month for work experience in a game reserve. At home, I have a domestic short hair cat called Willow.

We recently visited with our cat, who has been living with kidney disease for several years. The vet we saw was Tine van Egdom, and we have to say, having visited many vets over these years as we have been moving a lot, that although we have been fortunate to have many very experienced and caring vets, Tine has to be among the very best. She has carefully gone through years’ worth of blood tests that we have had done at several different clinics, thought through the results, and offered some new suggestions for us about our cat’s care. She took the cat’s blood pressure without shaving her or taking her into the back, which allowed a better reading as the cat wasn’t stressed about being moved, which was something we’d never seen before, and the same with blood and urine samples. Dr van Egdom really impressed us with her caring and compassionate manner, and her professionalism as well, and if we weren’t moving to Cornwall, we’d definitely be back. We can highly recommend the practice, and feel very fortunate to have had the great care and follow up we have had.

Such amazing staff at Medivet Portland, just picked Roxy up after having her spayed and they couldn’t of done more to make sure she was comfortable all the time she was there (to be honest I think they just wanted her to stop moaning 🤣) she even got to sit with them for cuddles at lunch 😍she’s now all wrapped up warm on the sofa at home.....although still whinging 🙄 thanks guys for everything

The reception staff were very welcoming. I was seen early for our appointment. The Vet was so kind to my cat and very knowledgeable. I felt that she really cared and wanted the best for my pet. We were not at all hurried. I can not recommend Tine highly enough.

After a fall down the rocks we brought Ben to the Portland surgery. The service we received from Tine and all the staff was first class. Thank you so much at such a worrying time.
